Garban-Intercapital Prizes in Epileptology

Through the generosity of Garban-Intercapital, the Fund for Epilepsy is making the following prizes available: (1) to those who have recently written a dissertation or thesis which has been accepted for a higher degree of a British or Irish university. The theme of the dissertation/thesis must primarily be devoted to the study of human epilepsy. There is no further restriction on the topic.) for the best master's dissertation accepted during 2001–2002. The award is for £500 to be spent on attending a conference on epilepsy in the UK/Irish Republic. Dissertation/theses should be soft bound. They should be presented with the applicant's name and return address on the front cover and on an accompanying letter. A photocopy of the university award certificate must also be enclosed. (2) Newman family Anglo-French award for the best paper primarily written by an applicant born after 31st December 1965 (as first author) on a subject related to epilepsy published during 2001–2002 in a peer reviewed medical/science journal. The author must hold either UK, Irish or French nationality. The article must be published in either English or French. The award is £2000 or equivalent in Euro to facilitate a working visit to another European country to study good practice in epileptology (clinical or research—preferably both). A brief account of the visit to be submitted within two months of return home. The journal article for the Newman award should be enclosed as a photocopy. We will remove the author's name before submitting the article to the assessors. The submissions must be received by 31st December 2002 and at the same date each succeeding year until 2006 when the prize system will be reviewed. Entries should be sent with a covering letter to:
